Jesenia is described as resembling her Handmaiden Socorra — "the same high hairstyle; the same stern face but without the blemish of kindness; the same height but appearing greater through thinness." The "blemish of kindness" is a precise distinction: where Socorra's sternness carries a trace of warmth, Jesenia's does not. She appears taller than she is, a thinness that lends her an imposing physical presence reinforced by the throne she occupies.

Her hair is her most distinctive feature. It is styled in an intricate arrangement of plaits, coiled and woven into a towering high hairstyle that serves as a visible marker of her rank. The maintenance is onerous: "One of the plaitsthat formed her intricate hairstyle was loose and had already twice been replaced by her Handmaiden."
