{{CharacterPanel | name = Kataleya | image = Head_Kataleya.jpg | race = Altierran | aka= | born = 506 | died = | occupation = Handmaiden tutor | insequel = | family = }} A [[Criada Velada]], Kataleya was the deputy tutor at Sometria when Meg Maddison was sent there. ==Appearance== Kataleya is a short, heavy-set woman with a sturdy, practical appearance. She has a round face, flushed cheeks and an unpolished, workmanlike look that contrasts with the more formal appearance of the Handmaidens. In the image-based interpretation, she wears a dark hooded robe with green trim, her hands held neatly before her, giving her a solid and immovable presence. She should appear physically ordinary but institutionally imposing: someone whose authority comes from her position rather than elegance or beauty. Short and fat, with spiky hair sticking out of her hood, and red cheeks. Left-handed. ==Character== Kataleya is the deputy tutor at Sometria and plays a smaller but revealing role within the school’s system of discipline. She is strict, impatient and entirely comfortable enforcing the rules placed upon the novices. Her approach is not subtle: she expects instant obedience and uses punishment as a routine part of instruction. Unlike Maricella, who is more controlled and intellectually deliberate, Kataleya seems to take a more direct and physical pleasure in exercising authority. During the exercise period, she randomly strikes the novices as they pass, apparently enjoying the activity and even taking care to choose targets that cause additional humiliation. The other children accept this behaviour as normal, suggesting that Kataleya is an ordinary product of Sometria’s institutional culture rather than an exceptional monster. She is also conscious of rank and protocol. When Meg speaks informally, Kataleya immediately corrects her and insists upon being addressed properly. At the same time, she is not especially important within the hierarchy. She reports to Maricella, follows the established routine and seems eager to demonstrate that she is a proper tutor. Her authority is therefore borrowed from the system she serves. Kataleya is best understood as a disciplinarian shaped by Sometria: practical, rigid and lacking sympathy for those who fail to conform. She does not appear driven by personal hatred of Meg. Instead, she regards Meg as another disobedient pupil who must be corrected, which makes her behaviour feel all the more routine and institutional. A bit lazy and impatient. She is also a little sadistic, enjoys hitting the novices during the exercise period whether they deserve it or not, but not excessively. ==Speech Patterns== Kataleya speaks in short, brisk commands. Her language is practical and impatient, suited to organising groups of children rather than engaging in conversation. She often uses direct imperatives such as “Come on”, “Hands out”, “Join the line”, and “Begin”. She insists upon formal titles and correct forms of address, immediately rebuking Meg for speaking without permission or calling her the wrong title. Her speech is less ceremonially elaborate than Maricella’s, but it is equally authoritarian. She has little patience for explanations, hesitation or questions. Her tone can become sharp and irritated when the routine is disrupted. She speaks as though every delay is an inconvenience to the entire school, using phrases such as “We haven’t got all day” to pressure the novices into compliance. Overall, Kataleya’s speech is clipped, commanding and functional, reflecting someone who sees discipline and obedience as more important than conversation or individual feeling. ==Timeline== {| class="wikitable" |- !
