A Cregan is the primary establishment for Illarion. It is the residence of the Alta Sacerdotisa and, on Alta, the Arcipresta Suprema.
Etymology
The exact origins of the word "cregan" are unknown. There are a few possible explanations:
- Grieta: the Spanish word for a crack, crevice, or fissure, possibly relating to the first Cregan which was built around the Tierrapuerta portal.
- Cresta: the Spanish for "crest" or "ridge" (like the crest of a mountain or a wave).
- Crag: the English word may have been used during the initial mixing of Spanish and English settlers. Creag is the Scottish Gaelic word for "rock" or "cliff".
