Cregan

A Cregan is the primary establishment for Illarion, with one on each of the Triada islands. It is the residence of the Alta Sacerdotisa and, on Alta, the Arcipresta Suprema.

Etymology

The exact origins of the word "cregan" are unknown. There are a few possible explanations:

• Grieta: the Spanish word for a crack, crevice, or fissure, possibly relating to the first Cregan which was built around the Tierrapuerta portal.

• Cresta: the Spanish for "crest" or "ridge" (like the crest of a mountain or a wave).

• Crag: the English word may have been used during the initial mixing of Spanish and English settlers. Creag is the Scottish Gaelic word for "rock" or "cliff".

Locations

Only the Triada islands have Cregans. Smaller islands make do with Temples.

Alta

The Cregan on Alta is Casando. It is the first and largest of the Cregans, the home of the Arcipresta Suprema and Comandanta Suprema, and the location of the original portal, the Tierrapuerta.

Isla Arbojan

The Cregan on Isla Arbojan is Rocosa.

Veridia

The Cregan on Veridia is Granhía.

Layout

All Cregans are built on a west-facing cliff with a great terrace jutting out to sea. There are three sections on the terrace (and merging into the cliff):

• The Palacio de las Sacerdotisas (or the Palacio) in the centre for the Priestesses.
• The Morada de las Criadas (or House of the Handmaidens) for the Handmaidens, on the left (facing the sea) so that they get more light.
• The Casema (or barracks) for the Guardia on the right hand side (facing the sea).
