The largest of the Triada, the three major islands of Altierra, holds most of the population of the world. Because of its hospitable geography and climate, it also produces the most food and money.

Etymology

The name derives from the Spanish verde meaning "green". This follows the name given by the English settlers of "Greenland".

Geography

Veridia is a long, irregular shaped island about xxx miles north-to-south, and xxx miles west-to-east. It has many islands and lakes, and a variety of landscapes. It is indented by a great bay, the Bahía Desmesurado.

It sits between 42° and 58° north, and 12° and 67° east (excluding islands).

• Large size introduces regional variation.
• Maritime location keeps extremes moderate.

• Oceanic (marine west coast): mild, wet, cloudy.
• Western side: Windward, very wet, temperate rainforest possible.
• Eastern side: Leeward, drier, maybe even semi-continental if large enough.
• Frequent storms in autumn/winter.

• Summer: 15–22°C, variable, often cloudy with drizzle.
• Winter: 0–8°C, rainy or snowy depending on elevation.

• Westerly winds dominate (mid-latitudes), bringing rain to western coasts.
• Strong seasonal storms, possibly cyclonic in winter.

The Cregan

Position: 48° north, 38.5° east°

The Cregan on Veridia is Granhía, whose meaning derives from gran (great) and bahía (bay). Unlike the other Cregans on Alta and Isla Arbojan, it does not sit on the west coast of the island because of the unsuitability of the coastline there. Hence the compromise of the west facing coast of the Bahía Desmesurado.
